Three Cheers for the Red, White AND Blue

Yesterday I substituted in first grade.
As we pulled out our Scholastic Newspapers
with cover photos of
Obama & McCain
some of the kids started chanting:
“Obama! Obama!”
I shut them down immediately
Not because I don’t agree
{maybe I do, maybe I don’t}
Not because I was worried about a class
full of unruly 7-year-olds
But because this year
My vote is for being American.
I told those kids
{and as we changed to this subject
a sweet spirit of truth entered the room}
that come Wednesday morning
it doesn’t matter who wins the election.
What matters is that
we’re all American.
And as American’s we must
Stand together.
Stand Strong.
And tonight, our family will
celebrate that very thing
with this lovely stack of

Raspberry & Blueberry

with Vanilla-Lemon Syrup

For The Pancakes,
mix the following ingredients together in a bowl
1 c. flour
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Juice & zest of 1 orange
1/2 tsp. salt
A Sprinkle of Cinnamon
A Smackle of Ground Ginger
2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. olive oil
Split batter into two bowls. In one bowl add 1/2 c. fresh, canned, or frozen blueberries. In the other bowl add 1/2 c. fresh, canned, or frozen raspberries. Add a touch of milk, if needed to make both batters pourable consistency. Cook on a hot, greased griddle, flip & serve.
For the Vanilla-Lemon Syrup
put the following into a small saucepan
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
Juice & Zest of 1 lemon
Bring to a boil. Allow to boil, while stirring for 1 minute.
Serve over pancakes.
U.S.A! U.S.A!
Happy, Happy Election Day.

What fun patriotic pancakes! Love your post. I had to laugh at my son, he told me the school had a kid election and that he voted for Obama because he liked his hair better than Mcains. We were cracking up!
