Love for Haiti

I couldn’t stand it anymore.
I was standing in my kitchen on Thursday.
My warm, cinnamon-smelling, well-stocked kitchen.
And, I was simply crawling out of my skin.
I wanted so much to do
something.
anything.
{Didn’t you feel exactly the same?}
On a whim, I threw myself onto email,
sending a message out to a fellow food blogger friends:
*
Anyone up for an blog-ville fundraising effort for Haiti?
*
I frantically typed out a few ideas, pressed the send button,
prayed some of them would be up to a collaborative effort.
Out of habit, I pressed the refresh button before loggin off.
There was this message waiting in my inbox:

Hey Brooke,

I wanted to connect with you about a project I’m launching to benefit those suffering in Haiti. Frustrated that I couldn’t do much to help, it occurred to me to do what I know, and use the resources I know, to make a bigger difference than I otherwise could. I know food, and recipes, and cookbooks – I know fantastic food writers and bloggers all over the world, I know food media, I have a wonderful, supportive audience. I could mobilize a larger group to make a bigger impact.

So remember Band Aid? I’m launching Blog Aid. Here’s my plan: over the course of the next few days I’m connecting with my favorite food writers and bloggers to gather recipes and photos from each from their blogs, to compile in a cookbook. I have graphic designer and editor friends who have volunteered their time and are standing by to get to work. I’ve already enlisted the enthusiastic help of Chef Michael Smith and so I thought I’d contact you and a handful of others next to see if it’s something you’d be interested in being a part of.

Best, Julie, Dinner with Julie

Aren’t you simply overwhelmed by the goodness of the whole world at times like this? I am.

In the coming days, I’ll be posting all the Blog Aid details. Should you so desire to preorder one of these phenomenal cookbooks, including recipes from some of the most incredible food bloggers in the blogosphere (and to include my exclusive Hope Cometh In the Morning Muffins) you should know 100% of the profits will be donated to helping Haiti.

If you can’t wait a minute more to donate to Haitian survivors, the following blogs will be hosting giveaways in exchange for your donation dollars. (Not to mention incredibly beautiful write-ups & recipes) Do be sure to stop by. You’ll likely love these gals as much as I do.

This cookbook is a fantastic idea and every little bit of $ will help. I will be watching for the details. I have to admit I'm been avoiding most of the media surrounding the devestating circumstances in Haiti. The sight of so many dead bodies and so many men, women and Children struggling just to get through another day is heart breaking.

The way the world is pulling together to help is incredible :)
