Chocolate Bunny Bundt Cake with White Mint Icing

“Playdates on Thursday?” I always say, “I think it will work, but let me check the calendar.”
Friend, Jessica , is regularly appalled by this response, reprimanding me in her southern drawl, “well get on back to me when you do finally check that damned thing.”
Encouraged by her non-expletive-laden reproach, I checked the calendar today.
There were all sorts of things on there that I didn’t know about. For starters, I’ve got four recipe deadlines due by tonight, the chaperoning of a school field trip tomorrow, a baby shower, photo archiving assignment, and carpooling for a cello concert. In checking the calendar, I also learned that EASTER is in a week. A WEEK!! Did you know this?! Why has no one told me?
Now that I have checked the calendar, I’ve got all sorts of ironing and shopping and organizing to do. I’ve got to put together baskets and tie bows on bunnies and prepare a menu for Sunday dinner. See?! This is why I always SAY that I’ll check the calendar, but I don’t ever actually check the calendar. ‘Cause I’d rather just go sit at Jess’s house and nibble on crudites from Costco and let Jess entertain me with her wily wit while the kids playdate the afternoon away.
Dang the checking of the calendar. It makes me so responsible.

If you, like me, are aghast to learn that Easter is right around the corner, fear not! Several weeks back, Betty Crocker asked me to put together a Bunny Cake for their special feature of Easter Recipes and it’s premiering today on the homepage. There’s nothing quite so perfect for your Easter meal than Chocolate Bunny Bundt with White Mint Frosting. Totally gorgeous, simple, delish.
A huge THANK YOU to those of you who have left book recommendations on my Creamy Avocado Chicken Salad post. There were SO MANY remarkable books mentioned, I thought I’d organize them into a list and offer it to you for printing. What think ye?
And, finally, there’s a boatload of giveaways that I’ve been putting off. So, I’m finally announcing the winners of the Smithfield Giveaways. Thank you so much for your comments over at the Smithfield blog! If your name is below, please buzz me your mailing address, email, and name in the “Contact Me” portion of Cheeky Kitchen and I’ll get your prize in the mail ASAP.

Now, before I let you go check your calendar, I NEED HELP! I’m seriously, frantically, maniacally trying to come up with a great system of organization for our family schedule. I really, truly TERRIBLE about checking the calendar and am trying to find ways to be better prepared & organized with my work-mommy-school volunteer-carpoolista-laundress schedule, the hubby’s schedule, and my kiddos everythings. Would LOVE to know what is working for you. I’m drowning over here!
And because I know I’m not the only one trying to figure out this game of balance, hows about I offer you one fancy little tidbit that has helped me tremendously. Last month, a friend suggested that I get each of my kids their own little bathroom totes. They are filled with everything the kids need for morning and evening prep: toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoos, loofahs, hair gel, brushes, etc. but sit on their own shelf in the hallway linen closet. That way, when it’s time to get ready for the day or get ready for bed, all the kids have to do is grab their little tote, use what they need, then return their tote to the closet. The bathroom stays brilliantly clean and I can manage it all without having to check the calendar even once! Love organization tricks like that!
Okay, now schpill it! Get me ready for Easter! Get me on top of my calendar! And…thanks so much in advance for your ideas!

In the midst of one of our family’s busiest schedules ever, I am loving my iPhone with “mobile me” subscription and my calendar syncs with my home apple computer every 15 minutes! I can enter items from my phone or from my computer. Then I print the calendar from my computer as needed and distribute copies to my husband and grandparents, and post one on the fridge. The calendar entries are color coded for family vs work. Things are still crazy, but it’s helping! Good luck!

My family uses the Cozi calendar- it is all online but I have an app on my phone that makes it even easier. It allows anyone to add things and it even has a spot for grocery lists so if someone else goes to the store they just have to check the Cozi & can pick it up for you. We love it! I also have THREE paper calendars- one for school assignments, one on my desk and one that I throw in my purse every single day for everything. I find it relaxing to coordinate them all every couple of days. I think that means I’m weird.

Hi!
Okay I’ve blogged about all of this (and you can check it out on my Best Of section at http://www.momof6.com…. but I am a huge fan of ICAL (if you are a Mac person)… I also use Evernote which is a free program that you can use to keep all of your notes, to do list, internet article clippings, and basically your entire life’s details in one place- on the computer- and it syncs to your smartphone- so you have it everywhere.
I finally, last week I reviewed a great organizational system from the Power of Moms, called Mind Organization for Moms- that is a fantastic tool to get yourself organized and pulled together.
I would be happy to talk with you and give you more details on any of this! I am a fan of your blog, and have featured your posts several times over the last few weeks!
Warmly,
Sharon

Brookie! I was driving down the highway today when I had a panic attack that I had not seen your blog in way too long. It stop coming to my inbox. What the what? So I had to make sure you were fine. Whew.
I’m hopeless with organization. I used to be an organization guru, but cannot for the life of me figure out what happened. So I will stayed tuned, closely, to see if someone can help us out.
Hugs and kisses!!

You sweetie! I’m sorry to worry you…especially while driving! I was thinking today that I’m such a distracted driver all the time, always thinking about this and that. I do so hope I’m not inspiring you to be the same! Love you darlin!
