Feisty Sesame Fries
As it turns out, I could live on Mexican food or Chinese food for pretty much ever, except that I do so enjoy having some differentiation between my ankles and upper thighs, so I attempt to limit indulgences on both cuisines.
But, oh. A good taco. A good bit of sticky Orange Chicken.
When I was in college, I remember sitting down at one of the first dates I ever had with my husband and he offered me a french fry. Me, with my stringent college diet (aka Minute Rice and Ramen), realized as I reached for that fry that I hadn’t eaten a fry since the middle of high school. Placing that precious little potato stick in my mouth was heaven. How had I lived so long without the perfect, simple flavor of french fries?
It was the beginning of a love affair. Me and that boy that fed me fries, we’ve been married 15 years and I still love fries as much as I did way back then.
As I was conjuring flavor creations for Alexia’s “Reinvent a Classic” contest, I realized the only splendid way to make a french fry even tastier was to combine it with the flavors of Asian Cuisine. Because, you know, Chinese Food. Amen.
These fries are so.absurdly.good. And so easy! Just grab a bag of crinkle cut fries.
Open the bag. (See? This couldn’t get any easier)
Coat them with a few basic ingredients…soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame seeds…
then bake them. How QUICK is this recipe?! And how totally, insanely delicious. (Pretty dang, that’s how.)
Feisty Sesame Fries
This is such a simple way to add some sass to your plain old frozen french fries. They are easy as can be to make and oh-my-gosh delicious.
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 bag Alexia crinkle-cut fries
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Toss the fries with the soy sauce mixture, sprinkle with sesame seeds and red pepper flakes, then toss again to coat. Bake on a baking sheet coated in parchment, in an oven preheated to 400 degrees for 14-16 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve with grilled bok choy, pineapple-teriyaki burgers, Sticky Mango Chicken Skewers, or Hot and Sour Soup. Enjoy!
