Kraft Recipe Makers: Yummy Easy BBQ Patty Melt
Howdy people! It’s time to get dinner on the table faster than ever. You know I’m all about quick and tasty shortcuts, so jumped right on board with the new Kraft Recipe Makers kit.
The concept is so cool: grab a box with two complementary sauces, cook them together in all sorts of clever ways, and your house tastes like a restaurant in seconds! There are, like, eighty thousand flavor combos (okay, nine). And every box comes with a variety of clever recipes you can cook up.
I decided to try the Hickory BBQ Beef this week, because my kitchen had some ground sirloin and pumpernickel bread just beggin’ to be baked up and eaten. The package suggests two recipes for Southwestern Chicken and Bell Pepper Wrap and Hawaiian Pineapple and Pork Stew (hello, yummy!) but I’m such a bad rule-follower (even when it’s sooo easy to open the box and follow what they say!) so I decided to add a twist the my childhood fave sandwich–ye ol’ Patty Melt.
Here’s Kraft’s take on how to be a good rule-follower and make one of the Recipe Makers according to the instructions on the box.
I used the Brown Sugar and Cider Vinegar Sauce to quickly tenderize and flavor the ground sirloin. Fry in a skillet, top with gooey melted cheddar and sauteed onions, then serve on toasted pumpernickel with the rich, tangy Sweet Hickory BBQ Sauce. One bite and my kids were like, “Mom! This stuff is delicious.”
To which I replied, “Slaving over the stove for you cute little folks is my pleasure.” (The fact that I didn’t have to slave over the stove at all? Our little secret.)
Crazy Easy BBQ Patty Melt
Yield: 4 patty melts

Cook Time: 10 minutes
An easy way to get dinner on the table fast! This classic recipe gets a Southern Twist and kick when paired with the matching sauces from Kraft Recipe Makers. Enjoy!
1 box Kraft Recipe Makers, Hickory BBQ Beef
1 pound ground sirloin
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 onion, sliced thin
8 slices pumpernickel swirl bread, toasted
Open Kraft Recipe Makers box, pour Brown Sugar and Cider Vinegar sauce into a large bowl. Add ground sirloin and mix together until sauce is fully incorporated. Form sirloin into four patties. Fry patties in a skillet over medium-high heat until cooked through. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese and allow to melt on top of each patty. Transfer patties to sliced bread.
Add onions to hot skillet. Cook until softened, about 2 minutes. Place on top of cheesey patties. Smear with the Sweet Hickory BBQ Finishing Sauce from the Kraft Recipe Makers box. Top sandwiches with second piece of toasted pumpernickel. Slice in half and serve immediately.
Pair with fresh fruit, avocado, and potato chips!
